- Prerequisites
- The course is intended primarily for Master students of Ecotoxicology specialization (preferentially in the 1st year of Master studies). An advantage is the previous attendance of at least basic ecotoxicology courses (General ecotoxicology, Ecotoxicological bioassays).
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- there are 6 fields of study the course is directly associated with, display
- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is the basic principles and applications of modern techniques and approaches, which are currently being applied in experimental and theoretical ecotoxicology. In addition to basic information of the underlying principles of the methods introduced in the course lectures, students will learn how to interpret the obtained results and outcomes, and they will also get practical experience with selected methods and models in laboratory and computer excercises.
Students will acquire theoretical knowledge and practical experience with the methods for exposure assessment and modeling, molecular and cellular toxicology including omic-based techniques, biomarkers, transgenic models, high-tier assessment, effect modeling, toxicokinetic and toxicodynamic modeling. - Syllabus
- Part A - Methods for exposure evaluation and assessment
- * Bioavailability and its assessment
- * Passive sampling
- * Passive dosing
- * Evaluation and modeling of chemical uptake
- * Exposure modeling
- Part B - Methods for effect evaluation
- * Macromolecules and their analysis(DNA, RNA, Proteins)
- * Metabolites - products of physiological and pathological metabolism, biomarkers
- * Cells (bacteria, yeast, eukaryotic models), basic in vitro cultures, evaluation of effects at cellular level
- * Eukaryotic cells in detail (structure, function)
- * Tissues and organisms
- * Populations, communities, ecosystems
- Part C - Modeling
- * Toxicokinetics
- * Toxicodynamics
- * TK-TD models
- * Dynamic Energy Bugdet (DEBTOX) models
- * SSD
