- Course objectives
- Students are to learn: to apply their knowledge in Geography in Environmental sciences; to do their own evaluation of Ecological and Environmental problems; Name the targets of Nature and Landscape protection acts and interpret their importance for administrative practise; Evaluate the importance of biota species as bioindicators of environmental quality; Analyze the influence of the Man on the Nature and the Landcape; Discuss about actual practical problems in Ecology and Environment protection e.g. ecological (biological) agriculture, forestry.
- Learning outcomes
- Students after passsing the course will be able to: • Explaine evolution of scientific disciplines Ecology and Environmentalistic. • Characterize reasons and history of environment acidification, especially on the territory of Czechia. Results of this process. • Characterize reasons and history of environment intoxication by high ammounts of nutrients. Results of this process. • Evaluate the history of introduction and expansion of selected critical species of plants and annimals. Impacts of this evolution into the Landscape. • Evaluate the history of selected endagered annimal species, characterize their present situation and problems. Impacts of this evolution into the Landscape. • Characterize forests types according to different criteria with respect to Czech Forest Act. • Explaine goals and use of so called Forests management plans and Regional plans of Forests Development.

- 1. Target of the course, related disciplines, Environmentalistics.
- 2. Biological individuum, population, coenosis (community), geobiocoenosis, ecosystem.
- 3. Stability of ecosystem, homeostasis, homeorhesis.
- 4. Introduction of species, acclimatization and domestification of species.
- 5. History of selected great annimal species in the Czech Republic.
- 6. Stages of denaturalization of species communities, stages of ecological stability, coefficient of ecological stability.
- 7. Typization of ecosystems used in the Nature protection and Environmental protection.
- 8. History of forestry, present organization of forests, forestry and its impacts on Environmental quality.
- 9. Ecologization of present-day forestry, Regional plans of forests.

- Teaching methods
- Lectures are held with the use of powerpoint presentations. Discussion about the lecture themes during lectures are welcome. Instead of two class exercises we shall do one 4-5 hour field trip in Brno surroundings. In class exercises students have partially possibility to chose themes according to their interest and specialization.
- Assessment methods
- Course is finished by oral exam with possibility of written preparation. Necessary conditions for the exam attending is the class exercise and field trip credit. To obtain the credit active attendance at seminars and two seminar papers are required. First seminar paper consists of short powerpoint presentation on selected environmental theme, second one will solve actual problems. Quality of seminar papers and the level of activity during seminars give 30% of final evaluation. However, the exam must be evaluated "E" at least.
