Prerequisites
KREDITY_MIN(30) || PROGRAM(KOS)
The course is intended for students in the 2nd year of BSc. study. Overall knowledge of physical geography on the undergraduate level is required.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.

The capacity limit for the course is 35 student(s).
Current registration and enrolment status: enrolled: 0/35, only registered: 0/35
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
there are 11 fields of study the course is directly associated with, display
Course objectives
The subject is directed so that students would acquire knowledges about measurement and observation of hydrological phenomena and focused on basic data processing methods in hydrology.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student should be able to:
describe the hydrological cycle, have a good knowledge in hydrometry, about the surface runoff and ground water, be experienced in limnology and oceanography
work with hydrological data
use practically the selected methods of hydrological research, measurements and data processing
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction. Importance of water in the landscape. Hydrology as a part of science, the historical outline, the organization of hydrological services.
  • 2) Water reserves and circulation on the Earth - the fundamental balance relations.
  • 3) Hydrographical characteristics of river basin, river network and river beds. Morphometrical and morphological characteristics.
  • 4) Measurements of hydrological elements - water stage, flow velocity, discharge.
  • 5) Methods for the data processing and evaluation of hydrological data
  • 6) Hydrology of rivers - regime of rivers and its anthropogenic effect, hydrological forecasts.
  • 7) Subsurface water - its origin, kinds and filling up; regime and observing of ground waters; sources.
  • 8) Physical and chemical properties of surface and subsurface waters.
  • 9) Limnology - the morphometric characteristic of lakes and reservoirs, the water balance of lakes, the temperature conditions.
