- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject Introduction to the study of Microbiology is to acquaint students with the specialization of Microbiology with the conditions and methods of work in the microbiological laboratory (laboratory glass, pipetting, chemical utilization and decontamination of biological material), methods of sterile work, vaccination and methods of cultivation of microorganisms.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students should be able:
- criticize research area in the field of microbiology
- choose the topics of their bachelor and/or diploma thesis - use the instrumentation of Section of Microbiology - understand the principles of good laboratory practice in a microbiological laboratory - Syllabus
- Introduction, safety, conditions and organization of work in a microbiological laboratory. Laboratory glass, glass and automatic pipettes, correct pipetting. Instruments in a microbiological laboratory and their use for research purposes. Work with chemical and biological material, its use and decontamination. Live media and their preparation. Sterilization, methods and conditions. Theoretical basics of autoclave, UV and ultrasound. Isolation, vaccination and storage of microorganisms. Anaerobic and aerobic conditions of microorganisms cultivation. Static and continuous cultivation.
