- Course objectives
- Main objective of Behavioural ecology course is making students aware of adaptive importnace of behaviour and its impact on individual survival and maximalization of inclusive fitness. Moreover, to study influence of ecological conditions on behaviour changes. Behavioural ecology is the synergic research of behaviour, ecology and evolution.
- Learning outcomes
- - to identify fundamental factors influencing adaptive differences in animal behaviour; - to design and test a model of animal economic decision; - to evaluate the state of adaptations in evolutionary arm-race; - to apply the models of competititon to animal behaviour; - to analyze benefits and costs of social behaviour; - to explain the conflicts between behavioral strategies of animals and to test their evolutionary stability; - to describe a form of sexual selection and the level of subsequent parental care.
- Syllabus
- 1. Evolution of adaptations in behavior 2. Survival and reproductive success of the animals 3. Economic decisions in behavior 4. Interaction predator vs. prey 5. Intra- and inter.specific competition, individual differences 6. Sexual selection, evolution of reproductive strategies. Sperm competition 7. Parental investment 8. Evolution of signals
