Course objectives
Main objectives of the course are: - to learn about basic methods and models used in the animal developmental biology - to learn about molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating animal development - to discuss practical aspects associated with the studies of development
Learning outcomes
Student passing this course will be able to understand and explain the molecular and cellular mechanisms controlling the embryonal development of animals. Student will be further able to understand the topic in depth (approaches, methods) sufficient for an independent review of the primary literature.

  • 1) Introduction to developmental biology, principles of morphogenesis and its regulation
  • 2) Interaction between epithelium and mezenchyme
  • 3) Epithelio-mesenchymal transformation in development
  • 4) Regulation of cell differentiation
  • 5) Role of cellular adhesions in morphogenesis
  • 6) Role of cell polarity in development and examples of their disruptions
  • 7) Role of extracellular matrix
  • 8) Regulation of cell and organ size
  • 9) Regulation of cell migration in embryogenesis
  • 10) Role of cell death in morphogenesis
  • 11) Role of senescence in development
  • 12) Role and regulation of epithelial branching in morphogenesis
