- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to present a systematic introduction to physical foundations of current nanotechnology and nanoscience. The introductory theoretical lectures are followed by series of survey lectures dedicated to the most prominent nanotechnology disciplines.
- Learning outcomes
- By the end this lecture, the student will be able to describe qualitatively:
- fundamental physical principles behind the most important nanotechnology branches
- principles of main methods for fabricating nanotechnology structures
- main methods of material characterization
- current most renowned nanotechnology applications. - Syllabus
- Nano-optics - the surface plasmon, quantum dots, nanophotonics
- Nanomagnetism - physical properties of magnetic nanostructures
- Nanomechanics - structure and mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes, nano-microelectromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS)
- Nanostructured thin film coating - classification, super-hard coatings, processing techniques and principles
- Nanocatalysic materials - fundamentals, materials and characterization
- Carbon fibers and nanotubes, nanocomposites and their applications
- Medical Nanotechnology - Nanoparticles and Nanoencapsulation, nano-biosensors, nano-manipulation of biomolecules
