- Course objectives
- The course aims to acquaint students with the basic physicochemical phenomena that determine the macroscopic properties of substances. Subsequently, it presents the main terrestrial geosystems and the processes taking place in them. Special emphasis is placed on the interaction of the atmosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere in the form of exogenous processes.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course students are able to…
* Assess the stability of minerals based on their composition and structure
* Compare the composition and main processes in individual terrestrial systems (hydrosphere × atmosphere × geosphere)
* Apply weathering processes to explain formation and development of soils
* Describe soil development and main soil-forming factors - Syllabus
- Crystal geo-chemistry
- Mineral structures of silicates
- Stability of minerals on the Earth's surface
- Mineral growth
- Earth spheres
- Atmosphere
- Hydrosphere
- Geosphere
- Exogenous processes
- Weathering
- Soil formation
- Weathering kinetics
