- Course objectives
- The general aim of the course is that students will achieve a basic knowledge in immunobiology and clinical immunology. The immune system of vertebrates, namely humans, will be emphasized.
- Learning outcomes
- On completion of the course, students will be able to understand basic principles of immunology; explain principles of innate and adaptive immune response, immunoregulation, and immunomodulation; define the role of individual constituents of the immune system and its mediators in immune response to infection; and understand the basic principles of immune system pathology and the role of immune system in transplantation and cancer.

- 1. Introduction to immunes system, basic terms and history of immunology.
- 2. Cells and organs of the immune system.
- 3. Phagocytes, inflammation, complement.
- 4. Antigens, major histocompatibility complex, antigen presentation.
- 5. Origin and development of T- and B-lymphocytes.
- 6. Antibodies, their characteristics and functions.
- 7. Cell communication in immune system.
- 8. Cytokines.
- 9. Infectious diseases, immunity against viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
- 10. Autoimmunity, primary and secondary immunodeficiencies.
- 11. Allergy and hypersensitivity.
- 12. Immunomodulation, vaccination.
- 13. Transplantation and cancer immunology.
- 14. Methods used in immunology.

- Teaching methods
- The principal learning activity during the course will be lectures, supported with studying recommended basic immunology literature.

- Written exam consisting of 12 questions evaluated by max. 30 points, min. 16 points are needed to pass.
