- The knowledge of quantum mechanics, thermodynamics and plasma physics is assumed.
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- At the end of this course, students obtain the knowledge from the fields of termochemistry, chemical equilibrium and chemical kinetics. Futhermore students obtain the knowledge from quantum chemistry and they will be able to perform the calculations using program Gamess.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able:
- to solve the problems from thermodynamics and chemical kinetics,
- to perform simple quantum chemistry calculations using available programs. - Syllabus
- 1. Chemical reactions and equilibrium
- Enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, termochemistry. Chemical equilibrium, equilibrium constant and its dependence on temperature and pressure. Equilibrium between phases, equilibrium at surfaces.
- 2. Chemical kinetics and surface processes
- Elementary reactions and reaction rate. Gas phase kinetics. Surface processes.
- 3. Quantum chemistry
- Aproximations. Hartree-Fock method. Basis funtions. Calculation of correlation energy. Program Gamess.
