- Course objectives
- Human anatomy in the extent specific for the students of anthropology. The classes are given at the Department of Anthropology, partly in the facilities of the Faculty of Medicine (with kind permission of the Head of the Department of Anatomy MUDr. Marek Joukal, Ph.D.). The goal of this course is that the students acquire knowledge about the human body musculoskeletal system structure. Knowledge of the human body morphology is fundamental for the students of anthropology, with respect to the integral approach to anthropological study and research. Understanding the morphology of the human body is fundamental also from the practical standpoint - without it it is almost impossible to grasp the majority of biologically oriented methods of anthropological research (while it is also important in social and cultural anthropology research).
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course the students should be able to understand anatomy of human locomotor system, to define and list both its passive and active components; the students should be able to explain the anatomical structure and function of the skeletal system and muscular apparatus of the human body and use this knowledge in anthropological studies and research; such proficiency is essential for a study in any area of the knowledge of man.

- Teaching methods
- Theoretical training in form of lectures/presentations. Using commented anatomical illustrations and schematic diagrams the students are introduced to the issues of human locomotor system anatomy. This primary knowledge is supported by students' individual work at home with study texts and anatomical atlas, eventually with multimedia study aids. Final finishing and mastering of knowledge of particular anatomical objects, elements and systems is carried out practically using anatomical preparations and models in an associated class Anatomy for anthropologists I - practical training. If epidemiological situation requires, the lectures can be in an online form.
- Assessment methods
- The course is concluded with an oral exam. The oral exam includes approx. 70 topics. The students draw one topic from the skeletal system group, one from the arthrology group and one from the myology group. Exam can be performed in person (if epidemiological situation permits) or online according current epidemiological situation (students will be informed about the eventual online exams in advance). To pass the exam an adequate knowledge of human locomotor system is required.
