- Course objectives
- Students will learn advanced analytical techniques. The course consisting of closed lectures is an upgrade to basic courses Analytical chemistry I and Analytical chemistry II. The new trends in analytical chemistry (development of instrumentation, methodology) are presented in lecture. In addition, the interdisciplinary character of present-day analytical chemistry is stressed. The lecture is documented by numerous examples taken from literature or practice. On the base of acquired knowledge, student is able to understand basic principles of modern analytical chemistry. Utilizing informations given in the course, students can also analyse problems and propose solutions in next study.
- Learning outcomes
- Student understands modern advanced analytical techniques and present trends in analytical chemistry (development of new instrumentation, methodology) as consequence of interdisciplinarity of branch. He is able to analyze problems for possible solution utilizing own knowledge.
- Syllabus
- 1.-2. Kinetic methods of chemical analysis. Theory - knowledge of basic terms and their use in analytical chemistry. Instrumentation and their use for analysis.
- 3. Chemical analysis in mixed and non-aqueous solutions. Titration in mixed and non-aqueous milieus, two-phase titration. Application of surfactants in analytical chemistry.
- 4. Analytical methods using radioisotopes. Basic terms. Methods. Description of methods and their use in practice. Activation analysis.
- 5-6. Modern trends in chemical analysis (use of computers in "multi-array" data collection and their treatment, joining of analytical techniques - "hyphenated" techniques, miniaturisation, automation).
- 7-8. Advanced optical methods and their use in analytical chemistry. Laser analytical spectroscopy - Properties and types of lasers. Analytical interaction of laser beam with matter. Linear methods - examples, optoacoustic, LIF spectroscopy, etc. Nonlinear methods. Special methods - detection of trace amounts, time-resolved spectroscopy, LIDAR far detection.
- 9. Modern separation methods. Preconcentration of samples - Solid Phase Extraction (SPE). Membrane separation - ultrafiltration, dialysis, electrodialysis, reverse osmosis. Methods with supercritical state of matter - extraction, chromatography. FFF methods.
- 10-11. Surface analysis. Laser ablation. Techniques with photon probe (PES, XPS, UPS, LAMMS, etc.). Techniques with electron probe (EPXMA, SEM, combined AEM, AES, etc). Techniques with ion probe (RBS, ISS, SIMS, etc.). Techniques with pole probe (FIM, etc.). Microscopy with scanning probe (STM, AFM, etc.). Analytical X-ray spectrometry and its use in structural analysis.

- Knowledge obtained during lectures will be tested by final combined examinanition. The succesful written test is followed by oral exam. The exam will be performed personally or remotely according to the current epidemiological situation.
