Prerequisites
Both linear algebra, and calculus, are required on elemental level.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Students will learn of methods of theoretical mechanics for all: point mass particles, rigid body, elasticity and hydrodynamics.
Learning outcomes
This lecture is very first part of the curse of theoretical physics. Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics, having origin in variational principle, are fundamental parts. They are supplemented by rigid body mechanics, theory of elasticity, and hydrodynamics.
Syllabus
  • A mass particle mechanics: Hamilton's principle, Lagrange's formulation of mechanics, The Kepler problem. Hamiltonian formulation of mechanics, conservation laws. Mechanics of a rigid body. Mechanics of continuum: Elasticity, Hydrodynamics, Dry water, Wet water.

Teaching methods
Both lectures and exercises can be expected.
Assessment methods
Solutions of all examples for Hamitltonian and Lagrangian mechanics, included in homeworks, is required. The homeworks can be found in support materials. Two examaninations, in written form, can be expected: during middle and end of semester. Final score will merge results of the particular exams together with final oral examination.
