Course objectives
The course demonstrates a number of physiological principles mentioned in paralell lecture (Bi3030). It is aimed at students of Pedagogical biology. The main objective of the course is to obtain fundamental physiology laboratory skills. Students will be familiar with control of virtual laboratory tools, collection and evaluation of data and statement of conclusions.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: - describe fundamental physiology experimental protocols; - demonstrate knowledge of laboratory work on living organisms including data collecting and their evaluation; - be familiar with control of virtual laboratory tools; - formulate relevant conclusions from respective data; - discuss physiological reasons of respective processes;
Syllabus
  • 1. Physiology of muscle contraction I. - skeletal muscle. 2. Physiology of muscle contraction II. - cardiac muscle. 3. Physiology of excitable membranes. 4. Cardiovascular system. Teaching methods
Students work by means of demonstration and interactive animations accesible as web applications. In the seminary course, lecturer checks theoretical knowledge obtained by homework. All virtual excercises are presented and commented. Supporting materials and real teachniques shown. Students are asked to explain and comment respective topics.
Assessment methods
To obtain final credit, homework as well as active work in seminars are compulsory. Lectures are completed by written tests. Testing is written consisting of 8-12 questions (multichoice tests). At least 50% knowledge is mandatory. Students need to attend all tutorial sessions.
