Prerequisites
Student needs to know how to work with electron and light microscopes on the level of F7810 Mikroskopy practicum I.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The goal of this two-week course is to get in touch with important Brno institutions dealing with electron microscopy, with their laboratories and production portfolio. This course, together with other practical subjects in the first semester, will make it easier for students to choose a thesis topic.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, students will:
- have an overview of the two selected institutes of the Academy of Sciences in which electron microscopy methods are applied and developed,
- have an overview of the activities of Brno companies producing electron microscopes,
- understand the inclusion of physicists in the research, development, production and applications of cutting-edge scientific instruments.
Syllabus
  • Visit to the Institute of Physics of Materials of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (laboratory tour, demonstration of selected instruments, discussion)
  • Visit to the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (laboratory tour, demonstration of selected instruments, discussion)
  • Visit to ThermoFisher Scientific company (company tour, demonstration experiments, discussion)
  • Visit to the Tescan company (company tour, demonstration experiments, discussion)
  • Visit to the Delong Instruments company (company tour, demonstration experiments, discussion)

Teaching methods
A visit to five institutions, two days for each visit. Tour, demonstration experiments, discussion.

Credit obtained for completing the visit to the listed institutions.
