A basic ability to work in a physical lab is assumed together with a profound knowledge of the secondary school level physics and basic knowledge on probability theory and statistics. - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Physics (programme PřF, B-FY)
- Course objectives
- This course is the second out of three basic physical laboratories within the bachelor curriculum. The goal of this course is to provide the students practical knowledge on basic electric and optic phenomena and methods.
- Learning outcomes
- The main outcome from the course is to provide the students with the ability to
- list and describe the main techniques of electric, magnetic and optical quantities measurements
- recognize the physical phenomenon underlying a presented experiment
- apply basic data analysis within a presented measurement. - Syllabus
- 1. Study of the electromagnetic induction. 2. Nonlinear elements. 3. Bridge measurement method, electrostatic field. 4. Particle mobility. 5. Magnetic field. 6. Relaxation oscillations. 7. Refraction and reflection. 8. Measurement of parameters of optical imaging systems. 9. Dependence of refractive index of glass on the wave length of light. Measurement of refractive index by refractometer. 10. Polarization of light. 11. Interference, diffraction 12. Optical spectroscopy.

- Teaching methods
- Practical laboratory exercises; students carry out data analysis and report writing individually; reports control and feedback provided by teachers
- Assessment methods
- The participation in laboratories is mandatory. Any student can use one alternative date for measurement.
The condition for getting credits is submitting twelve protocols and their approved by a teacher. Regular term is until the end of the term teaching period. The teacher can give alternative term until the end of exam period.
The measurement reports delivery and testing schedule is up to an individual agreement with the lecturer. - Language of instruction
- Czech
- Follow-Up Courses
- Further comments (probably available only in Czech)
- Study Materials
The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
The course is taught annually.

The laboratories start in the lab Fp2 at the attique of building 06 in the first week of the term. The program of the first practical exercise is the safety training and an introduction to the course. Starting from the 2nd week of the term, the students start to measure individually one assignment per week based on the schedule issued by the group teacher. There are twelve assignments in total.
