- Course objectives
- The principal aim is to define the mineral deposit, recognize the category of mineral deposit and evaluate its position in the human society and the natural environment. Students can discuss the main genetic aspects of principal types of ore deposits, industrial minerals and fossil fuels.
- Learning outcomes
- student is able: - explain a role of the economic geology in society - define principle features of genetic types of deposits - get to know typical samples of raw materials - describe main identification signs of raw materials - apply basic methods for investigation of raw materials
- Syllabus
- 1. EG: historical aspects of the economic geology, its sources, subject, importance and target. 2. Fundamental terminology of the economic geology. 3. Deposit as an economic subject, economics and reserves. 4. Factors affecting the importance of deposits. 5. Methods of exploration and investigation of deposits, sources and indications. 6. Classification of deposits of raw materials. 6a. Genetic classification and mineral-forming processes. 7. Raw materials for metallurgy, other industrial metals and their main sources. 8. Construction and chemical industrial minerals and their main sources. 9. Energy resources. 10. Principal environmental problems associated with exploitation of deposits and their solutions.
