- Course objectives
- Basic information on parasites of humans (protozoans, helmiths and arthropods) and on diseases transmitted by these parasites. The course is not elementary one and it is organized according to practical approaches, it means not according to parasite system. Big attention is devoted to autochtonic parasites, however tropical ones represent also very significant part of the course.
- Syllabus
- 1. Trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis. Life cycles, vectors,clinical featutres, diagnosis 2. Trichomonas vaginalis and trichomoniasis. Epidemiology, diagnossis. Resistence to metronidazol. 3. Infections caused by free-living amoebae, meningitis. Epidemiology, diagnosis, therapy. 4. Opportunistic infections I: Parasites and immunity. Pneumocystosis, strongyloidosis. Life cycles, diagnosis, therapy. 5. Opportunistic infections II: cryptosporidiosis, Cyclospora cayetanensis and Isospora belli. 6. Opportunistic infections III: microsporidiosis. 7. Toxoplasma gondii and toxoplasmosis. Life cycle, epidemiology. congenital toxoplasmosis. Diagnosis and prevention. Toxoplasmosis like a opportunistic patasitosis. 8. Parasitic incests. Myiasis. vectors, epidemiology, insecticids, biological control. 9. Viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases transmitted by insect vectors. 10. Parasitic ticks. Representatives and diseases. Pentastomida. 11. Viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases transmitted by ticks. 12. Mykoparasitology. 13. Therapy and control of parasitic diseases. Current trends.
