- Course objectives
- Course deals with following chapters: Principles and development of mass spectrometry. Ionisation and desorption methods in mass spectrometry: Electron impact ionisation. Methods of chemical ionisation, field ionisation and desorption. Laser ionisation, MALDI. Fast atom bombardment and secondary ion ionisation. Principles of separation of ions: Magnetic field mass spectrometers. Metastable ions detection. Dynamic mass analysers. Coupling of chromatographic methods with mass spectrometry: GC-MS, LC-MS, thermospray, electrospray. Surface analysis of solids - SIMS. Trace analysis - SSMS, ICP-MS. Direct inlet probe. Membrane introduction mass spectrometry. High temperature mass spectrometry. Search of spectra in mass spectra libraries. The aim of course is to present basic knowledge about mass spectrometry, which enable students to solve practical chemical problems.
