- Course objectives
- An overview of large-size specially protected areas of the Czech Republic (National parks, Protected landscape areas, Biosphere reserves), focused at the characteristics of their natural conditions, mainly of flora, vegetation and fauna. Other aspects will be also included (geology, geomorphology, postglacial landscape development, history of human settlement), with the aim to synthesize them at the landscape level. Biogeography of the Czech Republic in examples. Designated to all those who are interested in the ecology of the Czech landscape.
- Syllabus
- The first lecture will be introductory, defining different kinds of large-size specially protected areas of the Czech Republic. Further on, we will deal with the structured characterisation of the individual protected areas: KRNAP, NP & PLA Šumava, NP Podyjí, NP České Švýcarsko, PLA & BR Křivoklátsko, Pálava-Dolní Morava, Třeboňsko, Bílé Karpaty, PLA Beskydy, Blaník, Blanský les, Broumovsko, České středohoří, Český kras, Český ráj, Jeseníky, Jizerské hory, Kokořínsko, Labské pískovce, Litovelské Pomoraví, Lužické hory, Moravský kras, Orlické hory, Pálava, Poodří, Slavkovský les, Žďárské vrchy, Železné hory. Natural conditions will be specified (geology, geomorphology, hydrology, climate), the vegetation, flora and fauna will be described. Ecological and historical peculiarities of particular areas will be emphasized. The issue of nature conservation will be also introduced (conservation priorities, problems).
