The level of biological knovledge of high school is expected. - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Biophysics (programme PřF, B-FY)
- Course objectives
- Basic information about the cellular level of organisms - from acelullar through prokaryotic to eukaryotic. The cellular role in composition of tissues and organs. The course is intended for those who DID NOT passed other cellular studies.
- Syllabus
- The cell biology - syllabus 1. Subject of the cell biology, basic definitions, life, organisms, parts of animated nature, acellulars – prions, viroids, viruses; cellular organisms – Prokaryotes, Eukaryotes; ways to study of the cells, cell theory. 2. Chemistry of organisms, biogenic elements, inorganic substances, organic substances – carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, organic pigments, structure of molecules and macromolecules, combinated compounds, principles of interaction. Physical phenomena in living matter. 3. Acellulars, chemical composition and shape of acellular forms, principles of reproduction, main types of RNA and DNA viruses. 4. Cells of Prokaryotes – chemical composition, biomembranes structure and principles of function; cytoplasmic membrane, mesosomes, thylakoids, cytoplasm, nucleic acids and their function, principle of genetic code and its transcription, ribosomes, metaplasm, fimbriae, bacterial flagellum, surface structures, types of metabolism, reproduction, basic classification (probably during two lectures). 5. General eukaryotic cell structure, cytoplasmic membrane, mitochondria, plastids, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, another types of pouches, secretory way, nucleus, nucleolus, ribosomes, cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, principles of movement, cytocentrum, centriole, vacuoles, metaplasm, intercellular contacts, cellular receiving information. 6. Reproduction of eukaryotic cells. Function of nucleic acids and proteins, genetic code, basic information about replication, transcription and translation, chromosomes, their structure and types. Cell division – budding, amitosis, mitosis, meiosis and their modification. (paragraphs 5 and 6 will explain in three lectures). 7. Differences among individual kingdoms of Eukaryote in cell structure and types of metabolism (Archezoa, Protozoa, Chromista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia). Especially in detail: protozoa cells, metabolism, organelles, reproduction. 8. The plant cell – unicellular plants, basic types of tissue in multicellular plants, root, stem, leaf, their structure and function. 9. Basic characteristics of animals, genesis, stages of life. Cells differentiation and formation tissues of multicellular organism, theory of the embryonic cell lines, embryonal induction, morfogenetic fields. 10. Primary and supporting cells and their morfogenetic and physiological function in epitheliums, connective tissues, body fluids, muscular tissues, nervous tissues. Reproductive cells, their origin, differentiation and function in animal reproduction. 11. Cells and tissues of immune system of animals, their origin and function. 12. The homeostasis and its neurohumoral regulation. Regeneration and reparation. Apoptosis. 13. Organism as a harmonic whole of organs. Ethic questions of the applied cell biology.
