Course objectives
Main objectives can be summmarized as follow: to gain basic information on parasites of humans (protozoans, helmiths and arthropods) and on diseases transmitted by these parasites. The course is not elementary one and it is organized according to practical approaches, it means not according to parasite system. Big attention is devoted to autochtonic parasites, however tropical ones represent also very significant part of the course.
Syllabus
  • 1: Procedures for detecting blood parasites. Thick and thin blood films, Pappenhaim staining. 2: Diagnosis of trichomoniasis, cultivation and demonstration of parasites. 3: Cultivation of amphizoic amoebae. Serlogical methods: IFAT 4: Grocott silver staining. Serological methods: ELISA, imunoblot 5: Isolation of DNA from oocyst of Cryptosporidium. PCR, identification. 6.: Methods of cultivation of microsporidia. Inverted microscopy, fluorescence microscopy. 7.: Histological techniques: fixation and preparation of parasitological material for histological investigation. 8.: Histological techniques: HE staining 9.:Parasite species identification - basic methods 10.: Documentation of parasitological material, drawing, microphotography. 11.: Parasite cultures in vivo: Schistosoma mansoni - experimental infection 12.: Biopsy material. Cultivation of dermatophyta. 13. Parasitological laboratory - visit
