- Course objectives
- At the end of this course, the students should be able to use all basic methods of current scientific communication. They woul be able namely to search information using databases (e.g. Web of Science), to store them and use effectively (using Procite), to prepare bachelor or diploma thesis, disserations, oral or poster presentations etc.
- Syllabus
- 1. Sources of scientific information - conferences, articles, books. Working effectively with literature. Bibliographic software (Reference Manager, Scimate, Procite). WWW as the source of scientific information. Google scholar. Scientometry.
- 2. Oral presentation (seminar, conference, defence). Creationg presentations using PowerPoint. Techniques of proper oral presentation, practical training.
- 3. Abstract of a scientific work. Structured abstract.
- 4. Poster. Training of poster creation (PowerPoint, Corell).
- 5. Scientific article. Typical structure of the article, content of the chapters. Preparing tables, graphs and pictures effectively. 6. Bachelor and diploma thesis. Differences in comparison to the scientific article.

- Students have to prepare one abstract and one poster and present one 15-min oral presentation on the topic they may choose in accordance to their interests in biology.
