- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The seminar is intended as an organized discussion on selected topics of high school physics. Its essential part is students' independent preparation; individual seminar lessons are devoted to students performances on selected topics. The performance involves the elementary treatment of the problem aimed at high school pupils. Each performance is followed by the critical discussion.
The main objective of the course is the development of pedagogical abilities of students. - Syllabus
- 1. Optics (light; laws of light spreading; reflection and refraction by the interface of two media; optical systems, imaging; image by a lense, image by a mirror; defects of imaging systems; eye, vision).
- 2. Thermal and molecular physics (thermodynamical and statistical description of macroscopic systems; thermodynamical equilibrium - 0th law of thermodynamics; internal energy, work and heat - 1st law of thermodynamics; processes in an ideal gas; thermodynamical cycles; 2nd law of thermodynamics).
- 3. Structure and properties of matter (structure and properties of solids; structure and properties of matter of gases and liquids; surface tension; thermal capacity; thermal expansion of solids and liquids).
- 4. Physics of microcosm (basic quantum phenomena; photoeffect, Compton effect; wave-particle duality and its physical explanation; wave function; electron in atoms; Bohr model; Pauli exclusion principle; periodic system of elements; chemical bond; nucleus; nuclear reactions).
- 5. Astrophysics (orientation in the sky; astronomical coordinates; solar system - its past and future; basic stellar characteristics and their determination; the origin and the development of stars; the universe - its development and actual state).
