Course objectives
The main aim of this course is to get theoretical and practical skills in issues of environmental quality monitoring. Students practically test basic biological a chemical methods for determination of common parameters in environmental quality assessing, obtain summary about legislative action and selected legislative limits concerning quality of drinking water, agricultural soils, urban air etc. They will also learn what consequent actions follow in case of exceeding legislative limits. There will be also given summary about institutions responsibilities for monitoring of quality of environment. The whole course is practically orientated and students should be able to understand the background of environmental analysis.
Syllabus
  • Sampling terminology . Sampling devices and instruments. Sampling procedure, sample pretreatment and stabilization. Legislative procedures in sampling. Quality assessment of different matrices (water, air, soil, sludge ...) and related legislation. Analytical techniques for determination of inorganic and organic pollutants. Selected biological and microbiological methods.
