Willingness to follow physical approaches in describing and understanding selected phenomena in their classical, relativistic, quanrum and statistical variants.

Course objectives
The course aims at basic notions and knowledge in classical and modern physics. It is accompanied by presentations of selected discoveries and applications.
Syllabus
  • Classical physics... Dimensions and distances in Universe and in microworld. Time. Classical equations of motion. Rotation, sensors of acceleration. Momentum and energy. Galileo's principle of relativity. Lagrange and Hamilton formalism. Gravitational and electromagnetic field in classical physics. Relativistic physics... Finite velocity of interactions. Simultaneity, interval, clock paradox. Lorentz transformation. Momentum and energy. Binding energy, fission and fusion of atomic nuclei. Quantum physics... Wave-particle duality. State, superposition principle, Schrodinger cat. Operators. Uncertainty principle. Schrodinger equation. Quantum well, harmonic oscillator, motion in central field. Statistical physics... Many body systems, phase space. Density matrix. Canonical distribution. Fermi and Bose gas. Moving charges in semiconductor nanostructures.
