Course objectives
Lecture is focused on meteorological and climatological measurements which are required to obtain quantitative information about the atmosphere. For students, it gives knowledge of all fundamental methods and instruments used in the network of CHMI stations. A special attention is devoted to microclimatic measurements and techniques.
Syllabus
  • Introduction - theory of measurements and observations, precision and errors, history. Structure of meteorological service, meteorological stations and their classification
  • Information systems of meteorological measurements and observations. Measurements of individual meteorological elements and their characteristics - air and soil temperature, radiation fluxes (intensity and duration), evaporation, air humidity, clouds and cloudiness, precipitations, wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure
  • For all elements is keeped similar procedure of interpretation: separation of instruments and gauges, their physical principles, accuracy, applications and working regime, calibration
  • Aerological measurements - aims and network of stations, basic principles of radiosonds, contemporary radiosonds, surface equipment, processing of aerological ascent
