- Course objectives
- At the end of this course students are qualified to:
search, retrieve and store scientific information from various sources (with emphasis on the electronic ones) and handle them effectively (using computer programs);
create graphs, tables and figures effectively;
design poster for a scientific meeting;
prepare oral presentation on the scientific topic;
write bachelor or diploma thesis and scientific reports. - Syllabus
- Sources of scientific information - conferences, articles, books. Web of Science. Handle literature effectively. Bibliographic software (Reference Manager, Scimate, Procite, Zotero). WWW as the source of scientific information. Google scholar. Scientometry.
- Oral presentation (seminar, conference, defence). How to create presentations using PowerPoint. Techniques of proper oral presentation, practical training.
- Abstract of a scientific work. Structured abstract.
- Poster. Training of poster creation (PowerPoint, Corel Draw).
- Scientific article. Typical structure of the article, content of the chapters. Preparing tables, graphs and pictures effectively. Bachelor and diploma thesis. Differences in comparison to the scientific article.

- Theoretical lectures followed immediately by practical exercises.

- Students have to prepare one abstract and one poster and present one 15-min oral presentation on the topic they may choose in accordance to their interests in biology.
