Course objectives
This course is a logical counterpart of the course of Structure and Reactivity. In the end of this course, the student will be able to understand the details of the mechanisms of chemical transformations, which are studied using chemical and physical tools. Knowledge of elemental steps of chemical transformations and reactive intermediates will help the student to understand the scientific literature in the corresponding field and interpret the results from the experimental and theoretical studies.

  • 1. Art of writing the reaction mechanism. 2. How chemistry studies the reaction mechanisms. 3. Reactive intermediates. Radicals, carbebes, nitrenes etc. 4. Pericylic reactions. Selection rules. 5. Nucleophilic aliphatic and aromatic substitution. 6. Eliminations. 7. Electrophilic aromatic substitution. 8. Additions to C=C bond. 9. Reactions of carbonyl compounds 10. Rearrangements. 11. Free radical reactions. 12. Oxidation and reductions. 13. Transient metal catalysis. 14. Photochemical reactions.
