Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
description of basic methods and techniques of geographical enquiry;
to give an overview of geographic data resources;
to understand the formal aspects of scientific work in geography.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student should be able to:
present the basic methods and techniques of geographical reserch;
to give an overview of geographic data resources;
to understand the formal aspects of scientific work in geography.
Syllabus
  • 1. General methodology. Analyses, synthesis, abstraction, deduction, induction, causality, hypothesis, theory, verification, scientific discussion;
  • 2. Exploration and research. Time-space scale of studied phenomena;
  • 3. Field research in physical geography;
  • 4. Field research in human geography;
  • 5. Geographic statistical data and resources;
  • 6. Models in geography;
  • 7. Cartographic approaches in geographic enquiry;
  • 8. Work with literature and sources;
  • 9. Laboratory research;
  • 10. Structure of scientific report, presentation of research results.
