Course objectives
The main objective is to provide a general overview of the crustacean morphology, biology, diversity and phylogeny; for selected crustacean groups special, currently researched topics will be presented. Special attention will be paid to the following groups: Cladocera, Copepoda, Ostracoda, Stomatopoda, Caridea, Brachyura, and some little-known marine crustacean groups (Mystacocarida, Remipedia, Cephalocarida, Tantulocarida). Practical exercise, focused on comparison of the main body types (dissection) and an inspection of material of selected brachyuran species, will be included. The lectures are partly held by external specialists.
Learning outcomes
Student will - get the general knowledge of diversity, morphology, phylogenetics, biology and ecology of crustaceans - be able to recognize the main types of body architecture in practice - get an overview of the current state of knowledge on selected groups of crustaceans - get the awareness of trends in the current research and hypotheses to be tested
