- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- there are 7 fields of study the course is directly associated with, display
- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
explain physical, physico-chemical, and biochemical principles of transport and metabolic processes within plant cells and organs;
discuss processes controlling plant growth and development;
describe mechanisms of plant responses to external stress factors;
understand not only the basic physiological mechanisms involved in morphogenesis and functioning of plant cells, tissues, and organs, but also the whole-plant functioning in changing environment. - Syllabus
- General principles of transport processes in plants. Water transport in xylem, transport of solutes across a membrane, translocation in phloem, stomatal regulation of gas exchange. The light reactions of photosynthesis, regulation and repair of photosynthetic apparatus. Photosynthetic reduction of carbon dioxide, photorespiration, concentrating mechanisms C4 and CAM. Primary assimilate conversion, allocation of carbon compounds to plant organs, and their utilization in growth processes. Assimilation of nitrogen and other mineral nutrients. Specific features of growth processes in plants, embryogenesis, seed germination. Phytohormonal regulation of growth processes and development, main groups of phytohormones and mechanism of their action. Involvement of light and temperature regimens in regulation of growth and development. General concept of stress in plants, responses to extreme physical and chemical external factors, adaptation mechanisms of plants to stressors. Interactions of plants with other organisms and their regulation.

- Teaching methods
- Lectures using audiovisual techniques. Study of an e-book accompanying the lectures which is freely available on the web pages of the Masaryk university.
- Assessment methods
- Written test consisting of 40 questions. To pass the exam students have to answer at least 50% of the questions correctly.
- Language of instruction
- Czech
- Further comments (probably available only in Czech)
- Study Materials
The course is taught annually.
General note: Ačkoli není předchozí absolvování kurzu Cytologie a anatomie rostlin přímou prerekvizitou, je nezbytné, aby byl posluchač obeznámen se základní anatomickou stavbou těla vyšších rostlin (struktura vodivých pletiv, anatomická stavba kořene a listů...). - Listed among pre-requisites of other courses
