- Course objectives
- This course is continuation of the course Population and settlement geography 1. Seminars focused on acquiring practical analytical methods are an integral part of the course.
- Learning outcomes
- The graduate is focused on settlement issues, he knows the processes influencing the territorial distribution of the population, both in the general and the concrete level.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction - science discipline (opposite city-countryside, discipline development, classification, methods) 2. Settlement space (ecumene and its boundaries, types / forms of settlements, location, natural potential) 3. Housing (characteristics / criteria / types, urban development and categorization, countryside) 4. Development (rural) settlement (tribal areas, colonization in Europe / Czech lands) 5. Venues - space - settlements (typology, perception, specifics, approaches, community, quality of life) 6. Population / urban development in Central Europe (transformation, Middle Ages, Modern Times, post-war period) 7. Urbanization (city headquarters, approaches, inner city structure, distribution of population, present) 8. Urbanization of Czech Lands (Horizontal / Vertical Position, Urban Growth, Center System) 9. Suburbanization (CZ) (background, spatial development, urban sprawl, environment - eg physical) 10. Current population development processes (suburbium and post-, redevelopment, gentrification, models, city functions) 11. Metropolitan regions (historical development, current situation, elements, examples, models)
