Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to undestand the methods of study of the human skeletal remains and primarily the methods of study of the living man.
Learning outcomes
Students completing the course will be able to: - identify bones of human skeleton, determine age and sex in adults - describe somatoscopic signs on the head and on the body - professionally remove fingerprints and determine their patterns and indexes by lines - correctly measure body dimensions on the human body - calculate the body size indexes and to calculate the body mass indexes - to determine the somatotype
Syllabus
  • 1. Skeletal system. Types of human bones. Identification of bones and teeth (permanent and decidual dentition).
  • 2. Sex and age determination from skeletal material. Morphoscopic and morphometric methods.
  • 3. Calculation of MNI (minimum and maximum number of individuals).
  • 4.Somatoscopy.Descriptive characters on the head. Descriptive characters on the body.
  • 5.Dermatoglyphics.Fingerprinting. Evaluation of fingerprints.Fingerprints and chromosomal aberrations.
  • 6. Anthropometry. Measurement of basic body measurements, counting indexes. Anthropological researches in Czech republic.
  • 7. Composition of the human body. Evaluation of optimal weight (BMI, FMI, Rohrer index, WHR index).
  • 8. Typology of body building. History of typology. Variability of human body building.
