- Prerequisites
- Basics of thermodynamics, eventually of statistical physics.
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Course objectives
- It is the purpose of this lecture to give an introduction to low temperature physics. The lecture is divided into three parts. In the first part the properties of materials at low temperatures are discussed. The second part of the lecture concentrates on the theory of refrigerators and low temperature measurements. In the third part the attention is paid to the application of low temperatures.
- Learning outcomes
- Student should get insight into low-temperature behaviour of matter, principles of cooling and thermometry and applications of low temperatures.
- Syllabus
- Properties of materials at low temperatures, superconductivity, superfluids.
- Physical foundations of producing low temperatures, principles of refrigerators.
- Low temperature measurements
- thermal isolation, applications of low temperature.
