- Course objectives
- This lecture is conceived as an introduction into molecular biology and it provides explanation of basic cell processes on molecular level. Structure of genome, principles of gene expression, internal cell organization and its behaviour in the context of unicellular multicellular organisms are the main topics of the lecture. At the end of the course, the student will be able understand and discuss molecular principles driving cellular behaviour on basic level.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, the student will be able understand and discuss molecular principles driving cellular behaviour on basic level.
- Syllabus
- 1. Genesis of molecular biology, milestones, main model systems. 2. Structure and function of DNA, chromosomal DNA and its packaging in the chromatin fiber, characteristic of genes and genomes. 3. DNA replication. 4. Mechanisms of transcription, splicing, DNA editing. 5. Translation and posttranslation processing of proteins 7. Control of gene expression, regulatory proteins, genetic switches, post-transcriptional controls, RNA interference. 8. Mutations and DNA repair mechanisms 9. DNA recombination, and transposition 10.
