Course objectives
Compilation of current state-of-the-art of the dissertation topic from publications and Internet sources (or separately for up to three subtopics), definition of the studied problem and working hypotheses, work methodology, preliminary results, and a schematic time plan for the next three years.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - fully orient himself in the dissertation topic; - be expert in the state-of-the-art (current state of knowledge) for the topic(s), - precisely orient himself in the methodology needed to solve the topic, - define the procedure for solving the problems of the dissertation, including the time schedule.
Syllabus
  • The thesis should typically contain (approximate number of pages in brackets): 1) Introduction (1-2 pages) 2) Current state of the issue (up to 15 pages) 3) Definition of the studied problem and working hypothesis (2-6 pages) 4) Work methodology (2-6 pages) 5) Preliminary results (2-6 pages) 6) Work schedule (1-2 pages).
Teaching methods
The subject is implemented by the student's independent work with literature, maps and Internet resources, discussions with the supervisor and consultants.
Assessment methods
The dissertation review and work plan will be submitted to IS MUNI to the "Homework vaults" of the GD001. This thesis is approved by the supervisor, and its main theses are presented by the student as part of the PhD seminar and defended in a discussion with a committee composed of members of the Doctoral Board. The credit is awarded by the chairman of the Doctoral Board.
