Course objectives
The goal is to stimulate students to deeper recognition and deeper knowledge of typical Landscapes in wider outskirts of our university.
To give them concentrated information about this territory in unconventional form.
This course offers also possibility of enjoyment of explorer in an unknown landscape.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:

Explain specifics and similarities of Southmoravian Landscapes in the comparison with Landscapes of remaining part of the Czech Republic;
Define and analyze Landscape regions of Southern Moravia; Compare Southmoravian Landscapes one with another and explain the differences;
Identify the main attractions of respective Landscapes from the tourist travel point of view;
Apply knowledge of Physical Geography in the Southern Moravia region.
Syllabus
  • 1.-4. Geological, geomorphological, climatological, pedological and biogeographical overview of Southern Moravia and its comparasion with neighbouring territories.
  • 5. Prehistory and history of Southern Moravia, its settlement, development of the landscape - selfstudy.
  • 6.-12. Landscapes of respective Southmoravian (bio-)regions, their geology, geomorphology, peculiarities - attractive rocks, important summites, valleys, main and interesting water courses, rapids, waterfalls, peat-bogs (mires), fens, halophilous grasses, sand-dunes, (pseudo-)carstic forms, mineral springs. Peculiarities of landuse, settlememt shape, important buildings, roads and dams, important protected areas and environmental conflicts will be mentioned too. Totally 16 regions will be studied.

Teaching methods
Oral lectures are held with help of powerpoint presentations with great number of snaps of respective Landscapes. Lecture presentations are available for the students in university Information System and during the lectures are commented.

Two class excercises will teach students to identify the landscapes on snaps.
instead of 5 class excercises a half-day excursion in Brno surroundings will be held, students are to prepare some information on visited Landscapes.
Important part of the course is homework - "discovering trip" to Landscape selected by lot - and powerpoint presentation of the trip results.
Assessment methods
Oral exam (length about 30 min.) with possibility of preparation. Identifying of a landscape picture on the computer monitor is part of the exam too. Exam makes cca 70% of final mark and the level must be at E or higher.
30% of the final evaluation makes student´s activity in seminars and quality of the seminar powerpoint presentation.
Before the exam, students will present own notes of the organized field trip.
