      • Artificial intelligence (is helping spread fake news, which poses challenges to democracy and individual rights. In response, the European Union is creating rules for online platforms to handle this issue, emphasizing either removing bad content or promoting trustworthy information. The article suggests that the root of the problem is the internet's ad-based money-making system, and changing this could reduce fake news.

      • DeepFakes, which are hard to distinguish from real content, pose challenges to democratic societies. This paper studies how DeepFakes can be mass-produced for misinformation or used specifically with cyber-attacks. While DeepFakes are an evolution in disinformation, their real threat is how they can be rapidly produced and mixed into the vast digital information world, making misleading campaigns more powerful.
