Study-related information
- Final state doctoral examination and defence of the doctoral thesisThe State Doctoral Examination (SDE) and the defence of the dissertation (DOD) are conditions for successful completion of studies.
SDE: The content of the state doctoral examination is related to the topic of the dissertation and its broader theoretical and methodological context. In the course of the SDE, the student demonstrates relevant disciplinary knowledge of theories and methodologies related to the topic of the dissertation. The chair of the doctoral board and the supervisor will determine two questions related to the topic of the dissertation. The student will receive the questions at least 10 days before the SDE. During SDE, a debate is held over the questions asked. When answering the questions, it is the student's task to demonstrate sufficient theoretical and methodological knowledge and the ability to put his or her expertise into the broader context of the field.
DOD: The dissertation is defended by the student before a committee of at least five members, two of whom are external (i.e., do not have an employment relationship with MU). The dissertation is assessed by two opponents, one of whom is external (i.e., does not have an employment relationship with MU). The defence usually lasts a maximum of 60 minutes. At the beginning, the student has about 15 minutes to present the dissertation research (research questions and hypotheses, research design, data collection methods, results and their interpretation). This is followed by the presentation of the reviewers' reports and a discussion of the reviewers' questions. This is followed by a discussion with the panel members. - Requirements of the studyDoctoral study in social policy and social work is single-subject, studied in full-time or combined form. The standard length of study in both forms is 8 semesters.
