Passing the study plan

The final state exam includes a thesis defense and an oral exam from four state exam subjects, one of which is mandatory and three optional, but at least two must be profiling (from theoretical subjects).
The subjects of the state exam are:
1 one compulsory subject: Principles of geology
2 three optional subjects, at least two of the electives must be from profiling subjects (a) and the third can be chosen both from the offer of profiling subjects and from the offer of all subjects of the state exam (a+b)
a) profiling subjects of the field: Earth Physics, Historical Geology, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, Mineralogy, Paleontology, Sedimentary Geology, Tectonics - the student must choose at least two of the listed subjects
b) the student can also take the state exam in other optional subjects: Environmental Geology, Hydrogeology, Deposit Geology, Engineering Geology.
The compulsory course Principles of Geology tests students' general geological overview and their ability to connect the acquired knowledge of sub-geological disciplines.
Electives test the knowledge and skills that the student has specialized in. For each of the optional subjects of the state exam, mandatory teaching is established in the mandatory optional block of the same name.

The defense of the diploma thesis takes place in the form of a debate including the presentation of the results of the thesis, evaluation by the supervisor and the opponent, comments on comments and public discussion.
