Passing the study plan

The final state exam includes the defense of the diploma thesis and an oral examination from four subjects of the state examination, one of which is compulsory (Principles of Geology) and three optional, but at least two of which must be from applied subjects (Hydrogeology, Economic Geology, Engineering Geology), and the third is either Environmental Geology or a theoretical subject (Earth physics, Historical geology, Igneous and metamorphic petrology, Mineralogy, Paleontology, Sedimentary geology, Tectonics).
The mandatory course Principles of Geology tests students' general geological overview and their ability to connect the acquired knowledge of sub-geological disciplines.
Electives test the knowledge and skills that the student has specialized in. For each of the optional subjects of the state exam, mandatory teaching is established in the mandatory optional block of the same name.

The defense of the diploma thesis takes place in the form of a debate including the presentation of the results of the thesis, evaluation by the supervisor and the opponent, comments on comments and public discussion.
