Course objectives
Experiencing winter hiking and using snowshoes in a mountainous terrain. Fitness training. The course includes outdoor movement games and theoretical lectures on the following topics: New trends in winter activities. Winter hiking equipment and new trends. Using snowshoes in the past and present. Theoretical introduction to walking in snowshoes. Safety in the mountains in winter conditions. Orientation in the countryside. The use of avalanche diodes. The rudiments of First Aid (focusing on risks from winter hiking in the mountains).
Syllabus
  • Getting to know snowshoes (transport, putting on, taking off). Practical training of walking in snowshoes in various types of terrains (walking on a flat surface, walking uphill, walking downhill, the zigzag technique, the herringbone technique, running in snowshoes...). Adjustment of stick and their usage. Theoretical preparation (route planning, using a map, safety and prevention, communication, outfit and equipment). Movement games on snow.
