The offered Summer School aims at providing students with broad understanding of states’ transformation issues in general and from practical experience of the Czech Republic and its Central European neighbours it draws knowledge for potential use in other countries around the world which are undergoing their own transformation/transition process. During the course students will gradually come to understand various dimensions of major transformation process – starting with sociological and political aspects, moving towards economical problematic and concluding with the legal issues. The course is designed as an interdisciplinary forum, thus primarily, but not necessarily, students of social and humanity related fields should engage – political science, law, economics and sociology.

- Grasp the theory of relevant academic fields towards a major transformation of state system - Learn about cases of the Czech and its Central European neighbours’ transformation experience and assess it critically based on the theory and comparison - Engage in stimulating interdisciplinary and intercultural discussions about current cases of transition states in the world - Take part in unique cultural program

  • Arrival in Brno – 30 June (students can move into the residence already on 29 June) Week One Orientation – 1 July Module 1: Transformation in Central Europe from a sociological perspective – 1-3 July Module 2: Struggles and Challenges of Political Transformation – 4-6 July Prague excursion – 6-8 July Week Two Module 3: Economic Transformation – 9-11 July Bratislava&Budapest excursion 12-14 July Week Three Module 4: Transformation of the Legal System – 15-17 July Final presentations – 18 July Vienna excursion – 19-21 July Departure – the official program ends on 19 July in the afternoon after the visits to the United Nations and the Organisation for Cooperation and Security in Europe and other course related organized activities in Vienna. There is additional cultural program on Vienna on 20 July, which participants can opt to participate at.

Metody hodnocení
Students’ assessment of the course will consist altogether of four separate parts: - Mid-term exam (25%) - Final presentation (20%) - Essay (40%, up to 2,000 words) - In-class participation and activity (15%)
