Course objectives
Upper-intermediate language skills in English, ability to actively participate in class discussions and basic experience in academic writing. (B2/C1) Through class discussion, the students will practice the aspects of English academic writing.
Syllabus
  • 1. general characteristics and types of writing,
  • 2. complex structure of academic writing,
  • 3. academic writing style,
  • 4. paragraph, its composition, length and cohesion,
  • 5. academic text types (definitions, examples, classification, comparing and contrasting, cause and effect),
  • 6. plagiarism and referencing, quoting, paraphrasing and summarising.

Assessment methods
Requirements: The students are expected to actively participate in the seminars which will have the form of a class peer discussion. They are also expected to play an active role in the e-forum and deliver samples of their writing for class assessment.
