- Course objectives
- History of Money (DEPZ) Belonging to the core courses for students of finance, this course is designed for those who are interested in developing their knowledge in this area. The course concentrates on the entire development of money ranging from the pre-monetary forms through the monetary period to the post-monetary period. Its purpose is to clarify not only the origin, but also the development of monetary and calculation systems, type of currency and currency relations in a broader context of European and world development with a special emphasis on Czech historical countries. In addition, it reviews the development of monetary economy, origins and development of monetary institutions and financial administration in different socio-economic formations. Examination: oral.
- Syllabus
- 1. Oldest forms of monetary organization in “premonetary” period.
- 2. Development of monetary economy and its organization in conditions of antique society.
- 3. Establishment and development of antique bank institutions and their role in economic life.
- 4. Principles of monetary economy and financial administration in Early- feudal period.
- 5. Transformation of barter in monetary conversion in 13th century and its reflection in development of monetary economy.
- 6. Development of monetary trade and economy in period of Middle Ages.
- 7. Establishment and development of bank institution in period of Middle Ages.
- 8. Beginning of bureaucratization of financial administration at start of modern period.
- 9. Establishment of financial administration, monetary institution and monetary trade in 17th and in 18th century.
- 10. Development of financial administration in period of “industrial revolution”.
- 11. Development of banks and public money institutions in 19th and in 20th century.
- 12. Establishment and development of monetary unions and their role in economic and business life in 19th century and in early 20th century.
- 13. Financial administration and monetary institutions’ development in Czechoslovak Republic.
- 14. Establishment of world financial organizations in 20th century.
