Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to present and discuss real-life, specific cases on HTA from well-defined and precisely selected stakeholders and resources, e.g. NICE, EUnetHTA Databases, Value in Health, Int J TA in HC, etc.
Students will gain broader knowledge on the process of assessment and appraisal of selected technologies in healthcare, based on the EUnetHTA Core Model and EUnetHTA / EMA join assessment procedure as well as capacity building and assessment.
Individual Stakeholders’ engagement and advocacy groups impact will be discussed in order to understand and anticipate the importance of formal regulatory framework as well as informal forces on utilization of value in healthcare and perception of value innovation in health technologies across all domains of HTA within EUnetHTA Core Model Concept.
Learning outcomes
Completing the course, the student will gain deeper understanding and practical knowledge on different approaches towards Health Technology Assessment and Appraisal, with focus on EUnetHTA Core Model Process of Assessment and Appraisal as well as EUnetHTA / EMA Join assessment procedure. They will understand the roles, motivators and setbacks of different stakeholders (e.g. producers, regulators, payers, healthcare professionals, patients and patient advocacy groups, caregivers, health policy makers) in a process of value creation and utilization in healthcare for various products, services and technologies.

  • - EUnetHTA initiatives (JA1, JA2 and Collaboration);
  • - EUnetHTA Core Model;
  • - HTA Methodologies across the Globe (HTAi, INAHTA), EUnetHTA / EMA join assessment;
  • - Stakeholders Engagement;
  • - Patient Advocacy Groups and their interactions across and within the Healthcare Systems; EUPATI and European Patient Forum;
  • - EURORDIS and ORPHANET;
  • - CADTH and its specificities / soft-domains of HTA;
  • - NICE and SMC;
  • - G-BA and IQWiG;
  • - HAS and AIFA,
  • - HTA in Central & Eastern Europe;
  • - HTA in selected Asia-Pacific Regions; Global HTA initiatives.
