- The course is designed for fourth year students in the Public Economics and Administration field of study.
The course expects students’ previous knowledge of Public economics, Microeconomics, and Public finance. Students are recommended (but it is not an obligation) to enrol for this course after taking these prerequisites. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- Main objectives include the following:
- application of previous knowledge in the field of sport economy
- understanding the principles of financial flows in the sport (public as well as private sources)
- understanding the institutional system in the sport
- analyzing the issues concerning financing and strategy of sport clubs in the relation to public sources
- understanding the impact of investments in the field of sport activities
- being aware of relevant legislation and public policies related to the sport. - Syllabus
- Following topics will be covered in the course:
- 1. Basic terms and history of sport
- 2. Microeconomic and macroeconomic aspects of the sport
- 3. Institutions in the sport: state, NGOs, private institutions (at the level of the EU, Czech Republic - central and regional)
- 4. Financing of the sport - public sources (central, regional, and local level of the Czech Republic)
- 5. Specificity of the investment in the sport - methods of outcome evaluation and analysis of consequences
- 6. Financing of the sport - Private sources
- 7. Betting and lottery as a part of the economy of sport
- 8. Sports clubs - theirs features, financing and strategy
- 9. Marketing and Management of sports clubs
- 10. Activity of "sport" NGOs - a case study
- 11. Professional sport as an economic activity
- 12. Legislation and specificity of the taxation system for sport organizations (in the Czech Republic)

- Assessment methods
- The course is concluded with an oral exam. Students are eligible to take the exam provided that they fulfill the following condition:
- reaching at least 120 points during the course.
Students can gain the points from the following activities:
- points form a midterm test (max.100 pts); points from the final test (max.100 pts)
- seminar paper (including its oral presentation) - max. 50 pts
- summary (in Czech) of a paper related to the topic of the course and written in English
Important information! If students commit a prohibited act, such as using various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, the teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. The mentioned procedure relates to all the activities that are included in the final evaluation of the course (seminar work, essays, tests etc.). - Language of instruction
