Cíle předmětu
The objective of the course is to give students the knowledge of recent issues, concepts and principles of operations management. The course itself can be divided into three parts. The term of operations management, its role and major tasks are explained in the beginning of the course. The second part deals with the question of planning and designing productive processes in a factory. The third part describes how the productive systems operate. Students also get familiar with several methods and tools used in this field.
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
-interpret the role of operations in the process of value creation;
-explain the linkages between strategic, tactical and operational level of company management;
- design simple production processes and apply the basic methods used in this field;
-explain the basic concepts and tool used by management in production process;
-compare quality management systems applied within companies and quality assurance on a national scale;
-illustrate how operations relates to other business functions.

Výukové metody
The course has a form of lectures and seminars. In lectures, the concepts of Operations management will be explained in a discussion with students, the usage of instruments will be demonstrated on examples. The practitioners will be involved. Some concepts will be presented with help of multimedia. In seminars, the students try to apply the instruments on practical examples on their own. The calculations will be done in the MS Excel spreadsheet.
Metody hodnocení
The course finished with a written exam. The minimal points required to pass the test is 60 per cent. Students can take the exam provided that she/he defended successfully their team project on a given topic.
If student commits a prohibited act, such as usage of various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence.
