Předmět si nezapisují studenti, kteří úspěšně absolvovali oba následující kurzy: MPV_ETIN Ekonomika technické infrastruktury a MPV_EKZP Ekonomika životního prostředí. Studenti, kteří úspěšně absolvovali pouze jeden z těchto kurzů si kurz zapsat mohou. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- This course explores the proper role of government in the regulation of the environment. The objective of the course is to introduce students to the study of basic principles of environment, environmental policy, and sustainable development. It will introduce students to the topic of environmental policy and governance, and develop students' understanding and awareness of contemporary issues in the area. Models and concrete examples environmental policy in the Czech Republic, EU and OECD will be introduced. The course is scheduled to include a visit to the wastewater treatment plant.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course, students should:
- be able to interprete the role, context and organizational framework of policy on environment and sustainability, including the role of the private sector,
- know principles, objectives and sectoral policies of the environmental policy of the Czech Republic, EU and the OECD,
- be able to interprete and analyze political, social, economic and managerial aspects of specific fields of public policy on environment and sustainability (e.g. instruments for removing pollution, environmental goods and services in project management of factual environmental public projects),
- answer a series of current policy questions, including: What is "sustainable development"? How do environmental problems and policy differ in developing countries? etc.

- The content of this course is divided into the following lectures:
- Environment and environmental policy - introduction
- Sustainable development and its instruments (political, social, economic aspects of environmental protection)
- Environmental policy of Czech republic and the European Union (OECD)
- Economic aspects of environmental policy
- Environmental projects and their efficiency and effectiveness, financing Czech environmental policies
- Economic instruments for environmental protection - pollution fees, charges and taxes, environmental tax reform in CR and EU
- Selected subsystems of environmental policy and their management: Energy policy, Protection of the climate system of the Earth and air pollution – Climate policy
- Selected subsystems of environmental policy and their management: Water protection policy
- Selected subsystems of environmental policy and their management: Waste policy
- Selected subsystems of environmental policy and their management: Non-Governmental Organization and their role in the environmental protection
- Excursion - wastewater treatment plant (Brno-Modřice).

- Teaching methods
- The course takes the form of both: lectures and seminars. Students can take part in excursion. Presentation of students' seminar works is a part of seminars. The course is concluded with combined written and oral exam (50% of the course classification). Students are eligible to take the exam provided that they elaborate and present essay (50% of the course classification). The teacher can award students with “bonus” points if they are active during seminars and on-line forums. Requirements (including the literature) are specified further in the interactive syllabus and the downloadable study plan before the semester starts.
